Much of the focus during the India vs Australia ODI series will be on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The duo return to Indian colours after a gap of over 6 months, fighting to keep their international career alive. Kohli and Rohit hence batted for a long time in the nets at Perth on Thursday, the venue of the IND vs AUS 1st ODI.

Kohli in sublime touch, Rohit rusty in optional training session

Rohit and Virat have not played competitive cricket since the IPL and hit the nets in an optional training session for the Men in Blue. Fans gathered in numbers at the Optus stadium to watch the Indian stars in action as they prepare for what is a high octane ODI series. As per ESPNCricinfo, Kohli hardly put a foot wrong, facing Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh in the nets.

Rana bowled with venom and stuck to a back of the length area to Kohli, who looked at ease. The 36-year-old did have a few nervy moments but looked largely fluent in his essay. The former India captain batted for 40 minutes, having had a high intensity catching session before stepping in the crease.

Rohit wasn’t as fluent as his long time teammate but found his groove as the session went along. The 38-year-old thumped a few hits into the netting. He also worked on his forward defence, with the Perth surface expected to be played on a lively surface.
