In the 20th match of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, India will take on England tomorrow, October 19, at 3 PM IST, at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.

India’s bid for the Women’s World Cup 2025 has been disrupted by consecutive losses to South Africa and Australia in Visakhapatnam. The defeats have highlighted deficiencies in their long-standing lineup of five specialised batters, one wicketkeeper, and five bowlers, three of whom are all-rounders. This technique, which was formerly reliable, now looks unsuitable against top-tier opposition, as South Africa and Australia easily tracked down huge targets. The absence of a real strike bowler, most notably Renuka Singh, has left India’s attack without variation and penetration, placing too much reliance on inexperienced pacer Kranti Goud.

With the tournament on the line, team management may be compelled to reconsider their strategy and consider adding specialist bowlers such as Renuka, Radha Yadav, or Arundhati Reddy to boost the bowling unit. Equally alarming is the decline in form of India’s middle-order batters. While openers Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal displayed promise with quick fifties against Australia, a mid-innings collapse lost them the game. This pattern has been repeated, with India previously requiring lower-order rescues from Sri Lanka and Pakistan. With only three league matches left, India must win at least two to remain in semifinal contention.

England enter the tournament in a stronger position, but not without its own difficulties. While they are the only team unbeaten thus far, aside from Australia, their batting has been inconsistent, depending on moments of individual brilliance rather than group effort.  They nearly escaped defeat against Pakistan, saved by rain after falling to 79 for 7. It was their second collapse of the tournament, following a perilous 78–5 to Bangladesh. While England’s top order remains frail, their bowling unit has been disciplined, frequently pulling them out of difficult circumstances. The four-time champions need only one more win to get to the semifinals, and they will be hoping that star left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone has recovered from sickness. Ecclestone and pacer Lauren Bell have missed the match against Pakistan.

Head-to-Head:

India and England Women have played each other 79 times in ODI. England lead the head-to-head with 41 wins, while India have 36 wins.
