Komatsu and Atlassian Williams F1 Team have renewed their global partnership beyond the 2026 Formula 1 season, deepening a relationship that will now encompass technical collaboration, engineering innovation and talent development.

As part of the expanded agreement, Komatsu will become Williams’ official hydraulic innovation partner, establishing a new technical collaboration between the two organisations. Engineers from Komatsu and Williams will work together on key components for future Formula 1 cars, combining Komatsu’s expertise in hydraulics and advanced manufacturing with Williams’ motorsport engineering capabilities.

The renewed partnership builds on a relationship that dates back to the 1990s, when the manufacturing company supplied gear components to Williams during the team’s championship-winning era. Williams secured consecutive Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships in 1996 and 1997, before the relationship was re-established in 2024 when Komatsu returned as a principal partner.

Since then, the partnership has developed beyond conventional brand exposure, incorporating employee engagement, STEM initiatives and engineering talent programmes. Its activation strategy was recognised at the 2025 European Sponsorship Association Awards, where Komatsu and Williams won the Sport Sponsorship >€5 million category.

Takuya Imayoshi, President and CEO, Komatsu Ltd, said, “Komatsu has always believed that the greatest engineering advances come from tackling complex challenges alongside trusted partners. Our relationship with Atlassian Williams F1 Team has been built on a shared commitment to perseverance, collaboration and authenticity; values that have connected our organisations for decades. As we deepen this partnership, we are creating new opportunities to exchange knowledge, develop future engineering talent and accelerate the ideas that will help shape the next generation of technology. This is a natural extension of Komatsu’s commitment to engineering excellence and our ambition to create value for customers and society through innovation.”

James Vowles, Team Principal, Atlassian Williams F1 Team, added, “After three successful seasons together and a relationship which dates back to our last Championship-winning cars, it is fantastic to be expanding our partnership with Komatsu as Atlassian Williams F1 Team approaches its 50th anniversary. The relationship with Komatsu is truly special and embodies our approach to working with partners who share our values, believe in our journey and can help deliver success on and off track. We look forward to taking the partnership to the next level in 2027 and beyond.”

Talent development will remain a key pillar of the relationship. The Komatsu Williams Engineering Academy will continue, while the new Komatsu Williams Leadership Academy will focus on developing future Komatsu leaders through engineering and leadership experiences.

From 2027, Komatsu will also extend its involvement across Formula 2, Formula 3 and F1 Academy, broadening the partnership’s reach across the Formula 1 talent and development ecosystem.

The renewal consequently positions Komatsu’s Williams relationship as more than a sponsorship, creating a platform for technical exchange, workforce development and innovation while supporting Williams’ broader long-term competitive ambitions.
