Mapa Sustina: Mapping the Philippines’ Circular Economy

Mapa Sustina: Mapping the Philippines’ Circular Economy

How a women-led, non-profit, impact media organisation is pioneering sustainability solutions in the Philippines. The post Mapa Sustina: Mapping the Philippines’ Circular Economy appeared first on WAN-IFRA.

Four months after being awarded the inaugural Climate Culture Innovation grant from climateXchange and Syli for pioneering a ‘climate news service that redefines the media ecosystem’, Sustina is readying to launch its groundbreaking Circular Solutions Map.

The first-of-its-kind directory of circular economy solutions across the Philippines, the directory makes vetted circular businesses (like recyclers, refurbishers, and other suppliers) visible and understandable, rendering a living, story-driven map of grassroots initiatives.

Hosted on the Sustina website, each pin on the map will be linked to original content produced by Sustina’s editorial team.

Founded in 2025 and comprising an interdisciplinary team of journalists, strategists and technical experts, Sustina is a women-led, non-profit impact media organisation in the Philippines.

The organisation has three core pillars: Sustina Earth is an impact publication about climate, culture, and capital; Sustina Lab is the strategy arm, “a trusted partner in building impact-first ventures and ecosystems,” while Circulo was established last year as Sustina’s circular economy-focused arm.

Alongside the map, the Climate Culture Journalism grant also funds an editorial initiative and, in September, Sustina will coincide the map’s beta release with the launch of The Waste Issue, a digital collection of six stories on the waste materials defining the Philippines, and the people confronting them.

Sustina regularly hosts capability-building training and free workshops, and is also soon launching a one-day Solutions and Social Impact Training workshop, to share skills and insights the team has learned building Mapa Sustina with other journalists and media practitioners.
