In the second semi-final game of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, India beat Australia by five wickets at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
The Women in Blue pulled off the highest successful run-chase in women’s ODI history, chasing down 339 runs with nine balls remaining, a win defined by passion, belief, and resilience.
After losing both openers early, Jemimah Rodrigues (127*) dominated with the innings of her career. The Mumbai-born girl took the chase deep in an innings that combined grace and tenacity. At the other end, captain Harmanpreet Kaur also set the standard with a smooth 89 off 88, as her aggressive yet assured batting on display, showed the ideal counterweight. Their 167-run partnership became the heart of the game, a declaration of intent, solidarity, and pride for Indian women’s cricket. Even after the skipper was dismissed, India’s lower-order maintained composure. Deepti Sharma (24) and Richa Ghosh (26) made courageous cameos to keep the run rate alive, while Amanjot Kaur closed the chase in style with a gutsy 15 off 8. Every barrier was met with emotion, and every run was accompanied by belief.
Australia, after winning the toss, scored a competitive 338 runs in 49.5 overs, led by Phoebe Litchfield’s exquisite 119 off 93 balls and Ellyse Perry’s poised 77 off 88. The pair’s 155-run stand for the second wicket gave Australia an early advantage, while Ashleigh Gardner’s blazing 63 off 45 balls provided crucial impetus late in the game. However, a string of wickets in the closing overs, including three run-outs, kept them from surpassing 350 runs.
With the ball, India’s attack headed by Shree Charani (2/49) and Deepti Sharma (2/73) fought hard to keep Australia under 340 despite Litchfield’s brilliance. Amanjot Kaur, Radha Yadav, and Kranti Gaud each grabbed crucial wickets, keeping India in the game early on. Their perseverance provided the batters with the foundation they needed to choreograph a chase for the ages.
With the ball, Kim Garth (2/46) stood out, dismissing both Indian openers early to give Australia a good start. Annabel Sutherland (2/69) made vital middle-order breakthroughs, but the bowling lacked penetration after that. Despite a good score and spells of dominance, Australia’s bowlers struggled to keep up with India’s steady and determined middle order.
Jemimah was named player of the match for her fantastic ton. With this win, India have qualified for the finals and will take on South Africa to claim their first ever World Cup.

Australia: 338/10, Overs 49.5, Phoebe Litchfield 119, Shree Charani 2/49
India: 338/10, Overs 49.5, Jemimah Rodrigues 127*, Kim Garth 2/46
